Lejos del Silencio

The project was produced and coordinated by percussionist Robert Esler and partially funded by FideMex-USA a grant that encourages interaction between Mexican and US artists. The goal of this project is to bring original perspectives to the area of electroacoustic music. Through this we hope to gather new audiences and educate people about the music of this genre. This idea began from the meetings between Robert Esler and composer Rodrigo Sigal and evolved to a larger scale production. Later, composers David Birchfield and Padma Newsome were added to the project. All together three new pieces were commissioned for percussion and electronics. We hope to achieve a greater understanding of how technology and music can be combined, and to bring awareness of this field as a parallel art form to acoustic music. The recordings were funded in part by the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust.
